David Williamson Full Lecture DVD

  • Early David Williamson lecture
  • The magic earned him his modern day reputation
  • More than 90 minutes

In 1989 David Williamson presented a lecture to an audience of London based magicians, it changed their direction in magic. Fortunately, that lecture was recorded, released on video and subsequently on DVD. As a video, it was an instant success, with huge demand as word spread around the magic world. This recording is as important to a close up magician today, as it was in 1989. Packed with practical routines, tips and advice, a must see lecture that you'll watch again & again.

There is so much that I can say about this lecture, but I think it more appropriate to give the independent review that was written by Stephen Tucker and published in Goodliffe's weekly Abracadabra magazine on the video's original release....

David was filmed live at the Ibis hotel London, on March 4th 1989. This 90 minute long experience cannot really be done justice by words alone. I can honestly say I have never seen such high quality close-up material documented in one recording before! David has to rank amongst the top few close-up workers in the world, maybe even above those few.

In this recording you will see his spoon bending routine from Opus magazine. A fork and spoon transposition that is pure magic. A table knife through cloth napkin that should have any restaurant worker frothing at the mouth. A torn and restored card, where even the creases are finally ironed out. A signed card to pocket routine, where the deck ends up in the pocket, leaving the signed card in your hand. This alone is a great climax, but even this is topped when you physically remove the signature from the card and return the used in to your pen! Followed by an ingenious wand and coin routine, a novel coin matrix, a pencil through borrowed coin. A ring on/off routine, then it's back to the trusty pasteboards.

David's method for Paul Harris Interlaced Vanish crosses the border of genius as does the method applied to Spectator Cuts The Aces. The Cincinnati Prediction, which is a very clever Brainwave come Colour Changing Deck routine, that you can make yourself for a few pence!

The Fortune Telling Fish is a laugh-a-minute routine with the 'Psychic Salmon', the 'Tuned In Tuna' or was it the 'Fortune Telling Flounder'? Anyhow, it's a very commercial use for the old acetate fish that, due to body head curls and flips on your hand. The selected card eventually turns up in the packet the fish came from! Next comes David's incredible Cups & Balls routine. Only two cups, but three large loads at the end. Words can't describe the bewildering service of events that precede the loads so I won't try! Finally he explains his Striking Vanish, it has to be the most magical vanish of a coin or any small object you'll ever encounter.

I make that about fifteen items, any one of them is worth its weight in gold to the working close-up-entertainer. The entire one and a half hours simply flew by amidst the barrage of one liners, audience laughter and applause, not to mention an incredible display of skill and originality.
